are comprehensive teaching units of lesson plans, student activity masters and overhead transparencies. The activities are grouped into modules. Among these are word exercises (e.g., a simple puzzle, comprehension questions), math exercises, science and art exercises. They encourage primary, intermediate and junior-high level students to read classic literature such as fairy tales, folk tales, tall tables, fables, myths, excerpts from classic children's novels and poetry. Although read-aloud selections from the classics are included in each kit, the actual book may be borrowed from your local library.
Motivating Lesson Plans
Modules in reading, language arts, math, science or social studies, art or music, and a sharing session create a vivid sense of the reading experience. The lesson plan in each module includes the lesson focus and objectives, as well as ideas for motivating students, integrating lesson concepts and providing practice - either oral or written.
Teacher-Tested Format
Beginning with a selection read aloud by the teacher, students participate in a series of motivating hands-on activities in each subject area. The story's theme is integrated into each subject area. For example, in Peter and the Wolf, comprehension is tested through a test of the students' recognition of individual characteristics of the animals.
Reinforcing Activity Masters
Student activity masters are included as an easy way to get students involved in responding to the theme of the literature. Two ability levels of activity masters are provided to help meet individual needs.
